Which word is pH abbreviated?

After middle school and entering the health care mode in advance, we must be familiar with the concept of pH.

In addition to the pH of the solution, the human body also has pH, which is judged according to the pH of body fluid (body fluid or body fluid).

PH value 7 is neutral, < 7 is acidic, > 7 is alkaline, and the normal pH value of human tissue should be 7-7.4.

PH, also known as pH value, hydrogen ion concentration index and pH value, is a scale of hydrogen ion activity in solution, that is, the measurement standard of pH degree of solution in the general sense.

There is no doubt that "H" in "pH" stands for hydrogen ion (H +), but the source of P is controversial.

The first one is that P stands for German "potenz", which means strength and intensity. The first one stands for French puissance, which also means "strength and intensity";

The second is pH, which stands for Latin "pondus hydrogenii", i.e. "quantity of hydrogen". The other is potential hydrogenii (capacity of hydrogen) in Latin, which corresponds to potential hydrogen in English.

The third is that P is just a symbol chosen by Sorensen, because he also uses Q.

In today's chemical world, P is added in front of a dimensionless quantity to represent the negative logarithm of the quantity, so p should be in lowercase.
