In the Fukushima nuclear accident, all radioactive materials that were supposed to be sealed in the fuel rods were exposed. The fuel rod itself has melted, and the radioactive material generated continuously seeps into the water, forming nuclear contaminated water.

After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, the nuclear fuel melted down, producing nuclear fuel residue. The fuel residue contains more than 1000 nuclides. Groundwater and rainwater come into contact with these thousands of nuclides before forming nuclear contaminated water, which is fundamentally different from the wastewater of general nuclear power plants.
