How to deal with high ammonia nitrogen in industrial wastewater treatment?

    Author: Hongjie Water

Ammonia nitrogen in industrial sewage treatment refers to ammonia and ammonium ions contained in organic and inorganic compound substances. It is a common pollutant. Excessive discharge will cause serious pollution to water quality and damage to the ecological environment. Therefore, effective treatment methods need to be taken to remove it. Here are some common handling methods:

Aeration method is a traditional ammonia nitrogen treatment method. By adding a blower to the oxidation tank for air aeration, oxygen reacts with ammonia nitrogen in the wastewater to generate nitrite and nitrate, thereby reducing ammonia nitrogen to a certain level. Aeration method can effectively reduce the concentration of ammonia nitrogen in wastewater, but it also increases energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

By planting aquatic plant, ammonia nitrogen in wastewater can be removed by plant absorption, adsorption, biodegradation and other functions. Aquatic plant have extensive adaptability and strong decontamination ability, and have important application value in ammonia nitrogen treatment. However, the phytoremediation method has a low treatment efficiency and needs a certain amount of time to achieve the ideal treatment effect.

Biochemical method is an efficient and low-cost ammonia nitrogen treatment method developed on the basis of aeration method. By introducing a microbial community into wastewater, the microbial community utilizes the ammonia nitrogen in the wastewater for metabolism, converting it into harmless nitrogen and water, thereby achieving the goal of removing ammonia nitrogen from the wastewater. Biochemical method has high treatment efficiency, but it needs to control the reaction temperature, oxidation reduction potential, concentration of bacterial solution and other factors, or it will affect the treatment effect.

Membrane method is a method of wastewater treatment using membrane technology, which can effectively remove ammonia nitrogen from wastewater. The membrane method has the advantages of simple process, high processing efficiency, and easy automation control. But at the same time, expensive membrane equipment needs to be purchased, and the membrane is prone to ammonia nitrogen corrosion and pollution, requiring regular replacement and cleaning.

Using adsorption materials to adsorb ammonia nitrogen in wastewater and reduce its concentration is a relatively mature ammonia nitrogen treatment technology. Currently, commonly used adsorption materials include activated carbon, ion exchange resin, nano iron oxide, diatomaceous earth, etc. The adsorption method has low cost and high efficiency, but it requires regular replacement of adsorption materials, and in-depth research is needed on the selection and mechanism of adsorption materials.

In summary, in order to address the issue of excessive ammonia nitrogen in wastewater treatment, multiple technical measures can be comprehensively applied to treat it, selecting suitable methods and equipment for one's own process, and controlling various treatment parameters to effectively remove ammonia nitrogen in wastewater, ensuring the health of the water environment and the stability of the ecosystem.
